Automated meteorological station functioning in ZED Mariel

A new service has been operating in ZED Mariel since last May. The modern Automated Meteorological Station measures the main climate variables in the area and provides updated information, available on the web.

By means of an automated weather monitoring system, devised by the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET), the station provides variables such as wind, rainfall, solar radiation, relative humidity and atmospheric pressure.

Such measurements are registered every 10 minutes and the station website allows access to historical records.

With these reports, INSMET will have information for processing data on the behavior of those variables in the Zone, issue weather forecasts and update the climate characterization of the area.

The construction is close to completion of ZED Mariel meteorological office, where data from the Automated Station will be complemented with other variables of oceanography, air quality and seismology, among others.

This office will join the national surveillance network of weather conditions and will be equipped for issuing specialized meteorological forecasts in accordance with the interests of the Zone and its investors.
