Representatives of ZED Mariel on a promotion mission in Barcelona

A delegation from Mariel Special Development Zone (ZED Mariel) carried out an intense program of promotion activities in Barcelona, on the framework of the Assembly of the Association of Free Zones of the Americas (AZFA), held in that city as part of the World Summit on International Trade.

For two weeks Wendy Miranda, Director of ZED Mariel One Stop Shop System and one of its specialists, Magalys Fuerte, took part in various events to present the advantages of this Cuban platform to attract investment.

The challenges of free and special zones, as well as their relevance for world economy were topics for analysis among over150 participants from 25 countries, present at AZFA Assembly.

At the plenary sessions of the assembly, Wendy Miranda, as representative of ZED Mariel, made a presentation that included details on the creation of the Cuban industrial polygon, its main achievements and challenges ahead.

Since August 2017, ZED Mariel is an affiliated member of this organization, the most important gathering free zones in Ibero America.

The Cuban delegation also participated in other activities of the World Summit on International Trade, which debated issues related to logistics, e-commerce, ports and Authorized Economic Operators.

During the week following the event, the representatives of ZED Mariel held exchanges with entrepreneurs from the area on the progress of the Zone, its advantages for investors and the portfolio of projects prioritized by the Zone in accordance with its pillar industries.

The meetings had the support of the Cuban Consulate and Foment de Trebal, an organization representing entrepreneurs from the region and the important Catalonian industry.

The delegation also met with directors of Spanish companies already established in ZED Mariel with whom they talked about their operations, the progress in the ongoing investment processes of their production facilities and their levels of satisfaction as users of the Zone.

Spain is currently one of Cuba’s main trading partners and the country with the largest representation in the Zone, with 11 businesses in various sectors of the economy.
