Within the framework of the III Investment Forum that took place during the 36th edition of the International Fair of Havana, the Mariel Special Development Zone showed its main advances of the last year, in a presentation where the new approved users and others who were found operating.

The director of the Single Window System, Wendy Miranda Borroto, explained the main aspects that have marked the evolution of the Zone since the previous edition of the Fair, among which it is worth noting having reached the highest number of committed capital in one year, 474 million of dollars.

They stand out as features that characterized the attraction of investments in the period, the approval of important businesses, both in the sphere of biotechnology, as well as in industrial production, key for the effective substitution of imports. Likewise, ViMariel S.A., the first concessionaire in the Zone, will develop the infrastructures and manage an industrial park of 156 hectares.

During the event, directors of some of the 10 businesses approved in the year presented their companies, and a new user of the Zone was announced, CTB Service S.A., which will be developed as a logistics operator.

There are currently 17 users in operation, focused mainly on the provision of construction and logistics services, pillar industries of the Zone. It is expected that companies linked to the productive spheres will also start operating in the last quarter of the year. At the end of the presentation, users established in previous years shared their experiences in investment processes and in the operations of their companies, and commented on the impact on the Cuban economy.

So far the ZED Mariel has 41 approved users, with the presence of 10 multinationals and 19 countries in addition to Cuba. The total amount of investment raised exceeds 1,660 million dollars.
