ZEDMariel Office

The Mariel Special Development Zone began the development of its infrastructures and the establishment of businesses in the areas surrounding the Port of Mariel, a deep-water port, where an investment process designed to optimize the maritime and port activities of that port is carried out. enclosure.

The Port of Mariel has several terminals, of companies with totally Cuban capital, which reinforce the logistics vocation and the projection of turning that port into a hub in the Central American and Caribbean area.

Two of the companies that operate port terminals are users of the ZED Mariel and contribute to consolidate its position as an attractive productive and service platform for investment by Cuban and foreign businesses.

The Mariel Container Terminal, which began its activities in January 2014, has the most modern equipment in the region and in its 7 years of existence it has accumulated significant achievements in its performance: in July 2014 it absorbed all container traffic previously operated in the Port of Havana, its crane operators quickly reached expertise in loading and unloading operations, modern equipment was incorporated that allows rail transportation of a growing volume of cargo, reducing the costs of these operations for the domestic economy; In 2018 it received the status of Authorized Economic Operator, which categorizes that company as a safe and reliable port operator in the task of supplying Cuban foreign trade and in October 2020, amid the complex epidemiological situation, it reached the figure of 2 million containers operated.

Mariel Port Services is another of the port operators that has been a user of the Mariel ZED since July 2019 and has vast experience of more than 30 years dedicated to the provision of port services and related activities. It has a human capital specialized in the provision of port services associated with the activity of foreign trade and cabotage, as well as equipment and facilities in its two port areas.

The company works to consolidate an expeditious logistics activity and a cabotage line for products to the east of the country, taking into account the significant volume of non-containerized cargo that is operated from that terminal, with a strong presence of grains and food, steel products and cement, among others.

To guarantee the efficient operation of the terminals of the Port of Mariel and the provision of services to ships, various entities of the Port Maritime Transport Business Group (GEMAR) intervene, which have personnel and means to carry out their functions.

This group is made up of business structures from Practicos de Cuba, Empresa de Navegación Caribe, Consignataria Mambisa and SUMARPO.

The celebration this June 14 of the Day of the Port Maritime Worker constitutes a propitious occasion to recognize and honor the workers of the branch and to set new goals that contribute to the consolidation of the objectives of this port area and of the Mariel Special Development Zone.
