ZED Mariel commemorates its fifth anniversary

On November 1, the Mariel Special Development Zone celebrated its first five years, and in commemoration of the date this Wednesday the anniversary ceremony took place.

The Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdés Menéndez and the Ministers of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Industries and Construction, Rodrigo Malmierca, Alfredo López and René Mesa, respectively, were present at the event.

In addition, the President of the Institute of Physical Planning, Samuel Rodiles, the Chief of the National Civil Defense Staff, Division General Ramón Pardo Guerra, as well as representatives of organizations and institutions that are directly involved in the work of the Zone, participated.

On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of ZED Mariel, Minister Malmierca presented a recognition to the General Director of the Office, and underlined the importance of this visionary project for sustainable development in the country. Likewise, he highlighted the results obtained so far and pointed to the need to continue perfecting the work and never be satisfied.

In the main words, Ana Teresa Igarza, General Director of the Office, referred to the evolution and projections of the ZED Mariel and highlighted the efforts of those who have made possible the results that are exhibited to date.

The founders of the Office, who have been linked to work in the Zone since its creation, were also recognized at the ceremony.

For the cultural moment, the troubadour Tony Ávila performed some of his songs.
